    Bastârd Elf

I started the Bastârd Elf main page today. There's not much there right now but the comic is at least a year away. But don't fret, DCI isn't going anywhere in the near future (it has at least a full year left in it, if not more). This thread will serve as a Q & A for the new series. Although it's worth mentioning that things are prone to change in the time between now and when the comic starts. To start off I'll answer some of the most obvious questions. Feel free to add your own (they don't have to be very formal or direct, just speak your mind). Smile

    When will Bastârd Elf start?

Not until late 2007 at the earliest. Probably around the Holidays (November or December). The comic could be pushed back to early 2008, depending on how things go.

Does this mean the end of Dungeon Crawl Inc.?

Eventually all good things must come to a close. DCI will continue over the next year but the first chapter of Bastârd Elf will not be released until the final issue of DCI has aired.

    What is Bastârd Elf about?

It's a spin-off of Dungeon Crawl Inc. The comic will follow the adventures of Arudin, now largely a solo operator (at least at first) as he grifts and cons his way to fame and fortune. The story takes place aproximately 25 years in the future, on a new fantasy world of my own devising (allowing me greater creative freedom then working in pre-established worlds like the Forgotten Realms).

What will Bastârd Elf be like?

The tone of Bastârd Elf will be a bit different from it's parent series. Whereas Dungeon Crawl Inc. is chiefly a comedic series with swashbuckling elements, Bastârd Elf will be a swashbuckler with comedic elements. Rather than being a weekly comic featuring primarily talking heads, Bastârd Elf will be released in large chapters once a month, and utilize a more comic book framing style. You can expect big panoramic frames and more detailed drawings.

I'm quite proud of the Bastârd Elf page. It could almost pass for a movie teaser poster. Big Smile  It's sparse, but has a cool logo and an interesting tag line to get you excited about winter 2007 (coming to a theatre near you!). Cool

Hum, this sounds to me like Friends ending and Joey's new series. I'll be too sad again! :(

    Re: Bastârd Elf

I'm both really excited for this new comic and kinda sad that in about a year DCI will come to an end.DCI was the first webcomic I ever got into as a young geekling.Oh,well.We'll get to that bridge when we come to it.

But know that I think about it,it's kinda funny that I first started reading DCI in freshman year and it will be ending in my senior year.Coming full circle and all that.

    Re: Bastârd Elf

It most definitely sounds interesting. The DCIers will still get at least a year in the spotlight before they are retired. Arudin I'm sure will be very pleased about having his own spin-off. I reckon he'd be the easiest character to have his own spin-off, for instance if it was about Castor then it would just be about him trying to get laid.

This is very exciting. Arudin is awesome possum. (By the by, this is Carnivore, who is sick to death of errors in her old account.)

    Re: Bastârd Elf

I second EPSC. 25 years into the future should be enough time for some interesting new arrivals to mature enough to torment Arudin.

His magical skills should have increased a lot in those 25 years too, unless of course he has chosen to give it up for some other bastardly profession! :p

    Re: Bastârd Elf

Will any of the characters in DCI make an appearance in Bastard Elf? I'd hate to see them all just vanish after DCI ends.

Oh, and I'm not sure if this has been already addressed, so excuse me if it has. Big Smile

I really could put something useful here, but that would be too troublesome.

Not to worry, a number of DCI characters will be supporting players in Bastard Elf. In fact, I'm in the process of designing an updated look for Durnkrag even as we speak (and have already completed designs on several others).

    Re: Bastârd Elf

Hmmm, a number of DCI characters... that does not imply only main characters. Cool, I hope to see more of Blinky and the Lich, they where awesome.
