    RE: Upcomming Star Wars movies

You can tell I'm bored that I'm looking at this ancient thread.

DeaExMachina, if you're around or not, A New Hope had a budget of about a million dollars and was produced by a company that didn't exist before it and had a story that was slapped together because he couldn't get rights to Flash Gordon. The thing that set it apart was the technological genius and the fact that he didn't try to overreach. He didn't come up with anything new, he just did what had been done but did it a hell of a lot better.
Six inches of cute brooding war hero.

The Star Wars movies are crap. Not just the recent ones, all of them. If anything the first is the only one worth anything.

    RE: Upcomming Star Wars movies

FINALLY a new Star wars movie with an actual space battle. That really annoyed me about the last ones...
I thought the originals were better than the new ones and think Lucas should getsome professional writers like the book authors (which I think do a better job than Lucas did on I and II). I am really hopin this one turns out better.
I have to put this in again???

FINALLY a new Star wars movie with an actual space battle.

Is there really anything new left to be done with space battles? The one in Phantom Menace reminded me of Babylon 5!

I didn't actually know what the budget was, i'm a bit surprised it was that low. Never the less, they got quality people that respected the subject matter. Without these two elements, you end up with a questionable product. When the people making the movie don't respect the subject matter, it is impossible to get anything other than CRAP and that's all sci-fi fans ever got before Starwars with the possible exeption of Star Trek, which had the respect of the subject matter from it's creator, questionable quality of actors, and Executives devoid of any respect of the subject matter.

No I am not giving you permission to argue about which is better! I consider them equal but different.

    RE: Upcomming Star Wars movies

Well I am glad to see that there will be a good space battle.  I agree, the one in The Phantom Menace was nothing compared to other ones.

Well, since this is a Star Wars thread, I will say STAR WARS IS AWESOME!

*Watches the Lexx eat the Death star*

Sometimes I'm glad that good science fiction doesn't get as much coverage. The mini seris of children of dune was more than enough desecration for my tastes.

Star wars was an amalgamation of ideas taken from various science fiction of the time, backed up with hype and merchandising, and has been a successful franchise ever scince. Not quite as geeky as Star trek (which in my opinion is supiror, in amount of content and diversity of ideas in the same universe) but with an almost as loyal following.

And as for special effects, the only thing I like about the film (the backgrounds are nice as well), well, there's much better special effects in other films. LotR for example.

News on what the upcoming trailer will look like..

The first half of trailer consists of a familiar voice over with Alec Guinness. Fans will love to hear him speak his monologue to Luke from A New Hope about "Jedi Knights always being the guardians of peace." As we hear these familiar phrases, they've intercut shots from various Star Wars episodes, excluding Episode 3. Only when the monologue ends with "Vader was seduced by the dark side of the Force" about 40 seconds into the trailer do we see the face of Anakin. He is partly covered with dark hood, looking positively evil.

This is followed by the shot of erupting volcanoes, then some sort of volcanic field with crab-like creatures and then darkness, all accompanied by Vader breathing. Then the following is heard:

    Sidious: "Lord Vader..."

    Vader: "Yes?"

    Sidious: "Rise."

Then we see Anakin in full Vader gear rising on some sort of operating table to which he is chained. The rising is slow and is intercut with shot of various Star Wars main characters. When the table has fully risen so that Vader is basically standing upright, the meatiest part of trailer begins, with many, many shots from Episode III. Most of them are very, very short - this will be something for freeze-frame fanatics to analyze.

The ones that stuck in my memory:

Dozens of Wookiees on some sort of floating platform.

    Padme with signature Leia hairdo.

The Tri-Fighter, aka the precursor to the TIE fighter with three curving wings and guns mounted between each wing. They shoot red lasers.

The ARC Clonefigthter, aka the precursor to X-Wing, with three wings on each side.

A gigantic starship being sprayed by streams of something that looks like dense acid.

The trailer ends with the title "THE SAGA IS COMPLETE - MAY 2005" and is about 100 seconds long.
