: Your Favorite VG system.

Billybobgeorgebob
Title says all. My favorite is the SNES just to let you know. I just brought it back up from my basement and have been playing Shadowrun ($5 to the person who can identify that game) for the past 5 hours. Must do homework now.

Crazy_Nekko
You mean I have to pick one??????? But most (if not all) are sooo grand in their own way, Havin to chose is so evil, and no destroyin humanity kinda of evil (cause that evil is fun )

Michael Chandra
SHADOWRUN? You gotta be kidding me! It sucked! It dropped the job-system, which was the best part of Shadowrun for the Genesis.

Say, did you know Shadowrun comes from the D&D game Shadowrun?

Kuro-chan
Wow! SNES is sure kicking butt in the polls!!!

That has always been my favourite system. It bears some of my favourite games, like SOM!!!

^_^

Later,

flamingspinach
I voted for SNES because I play it a lot. I think the GCN is a far better system (obviously), but SNES has the best games for its time period, period. HAHAHA...ha...huh? Yeah. BTW, BillyBobGeorgeBob, try never to put a capital x next to a right paren, like so X) because it makes a smiley, as you can see. For instance, if I typed Sega Genesis (conting [sic] Sega CD and 32X), it would come out like that. X)

Michael Chandra
I'll go for Genesis, I just LOVED Dungeons and Dragons!
And Sonic, Sonic & Knuckles, Aquatic Games and tons of other games I played on it.
Oh, and Shadowrun, although I only played that one as a ROM.
It ROCKED!

rob_ot3
Such a hard Choice! Ièd vote for th snes but I never had one. I'd vote nes but It wasn't up to the level of its newer counterpart. and I'd vote for the genesis cause it kicked ass, but I chose the 64 cause it was sweet. nuff' said

flamingspinach
Who said systems that you've only played as an emulator don't count? Hell, all consoles I've ever played were on emulator except GCN. And some N64.

RabidFlamingo
<i>Say, did you know Shadowrun comes from the D&D game Shadowrun?</i>

Well how old IS the Paper and Pencil shadow run? And I believe that the Genesis version is closer to the Paper and Pencil then the SNES version.

Sprite Monkey
Hey, where is my friggin TurboGrafX 16?!?!

Inuyasha
It's with the Atrai in the Trash.
(actually I can't really comment on this one I never used a TurboGrafX 16. I just wanted to say something and that popped into my head, as so much does. say that reminds me of a funny story...)

Billybobgeorgebob
In reply to sprite monkey's comment.

I TRIED TO PUT EVERY SYSTEM ON! I TRIED, DONT MAKE ME CRY OVER IT ;_;. The poles can only hold ten slots remember, and I knew, I KNEW this would happen, someone would say that their VG system wasn't on it. I'm sorry people, I'm only ogre.

Lord Cacill
I liked SNES, but the PSX and the PS2 are just above it. SNES had some good games for it's time, but i like to follow developers. Mainly Squaresoft... never was a genesis fan, it never appealed to me.

RabidFlamingo
The PS2 is like windows. It's only big because the PSX was.

Sprite Monkey
Keith Courage in the Alpha Zone FOREVER!!!

Lord Cacill
The PSX only got big after Square split with Nintendo. The PSX was not very popular until then. They moved to PSX and made it big. Square made F.F. series, a wholly triumphant series and brought a huge fan base to the system. Since then, they've stuck with the PS and are now just starting to "make up" with nintendo. When a huge developer moves, the fans move, you follow what you like.
Microsoft has the potential to be big in the gaming industry. All they need is more third party support, and more than Rare backing them up. The hardware on the Xbox is crazy powerful!

rob_ot3
This is my explanation in Techno Babble:

Actually the gamecube and the X-box are about equal. While X-box has more of crappy hardware (slow RAM, old style construction, harddrives that crash and the like)
The Gamecube use specialised equipent while it is less in the numbers it is equal if not more powerful.
One last thing the way tha gamecube is built allows it to send information faster thus having it catch up in the processor department.

This is my expalnation in plain english:

X-BOX GOOD, GAMECUBE BETTER!!!!:)

flamingspinach
Indeedly. The XBox has humongously powerful components, but the way they work together is horribly inneficient. Plus, the games are, for the most part, poorly constructed. Whereas GCN games are always top o' the line. The hardware isn't too shabby either. All in all, the pros of the GCN completely outweigh the cons. The cons of the XBox drown the pros. As for the PS2... It's okay. Wide variety of games. That's good. But... graphics are kinda strange... and none of the real legacy series have sequels there EXCEPT Final Fantasy.

Lord Cacill
Yes, Nintendo has this thing about quality. And the games usually are quite high in quality. PS2 two graphics are odd due to the forgetfulness of Sony in putting a fun little thing in called "anti-aliasing" which makes it look a lot better. The DC had that and the games looked really good. If the PS2 had that, it would make it look a ton better.
The XBox has a bad problem like that. I said the hardware was good, not the software that was used to integrate the stuff. nVidia was ranting on them for not taking advantage of the power that they had put into the graphics processor. I say nVidia should leave Microsoft's side and hook the PS2 up with some nice graphics processing power.

You forget, Capcom moved there some time ago as well. Most of the recent Megaman games have been on PS2.

flamingspinach
Ha ha. PS2 specs are out, and now they're set in stone. As are those of the GCN and XBox. Maybe nVidia should embrace the next installment of the Nintendo legacy...

Inuyasha
All this talk about pros and cons of GCN and X-Box no-one seems to be bringing up the the way the GCN hardware was made, it's easy to develop for, it has a lot of stuff that you more or less flip a switch in the code to say that you want something on.

omni777
Yeah, ease of development is really important in creating quality games.

I picked SNES because of the sheer quantity of amazingly good games it had. I still have mine, along with about 50 games, and I still play all of them from time to time. PSX had a great number of good games, too but not nearly as many as SNES

Sprite Monkey
I think PSX had the quantity theory working for it.

"Let's release every single game we possibly can, and even if people don't like it and the game completely blows, we'll still make a marginal profit off of it, and we'll have a massive game library! muuhahaha!!"

flamingspinach
I never thought of it that way. It's completely true. I believe that's what's going on with PS2. I mean, there are what, about 5 times as many games coming out for PS2 per month as GCN and XBox...

omni777
Leave it to SM to put things in perspective *realizes what he just said, shoots self*

Billybobgeorgebob
i know how to solve this problem. INTRODUCING THE P-Box-Cube!

Inuyasha
That's the stupidest... the most... it's... it kinda works doesn't it?

Billybobgeorgebob
Yup! Arn't I smart (don't answer that)

Michael Chandra
Yeah, Genesis was closer to the D&D, especially due to the job system, and the many options.

Lord Cacill
Compatibility is also a factor. The PS2 is backwards compatable on all of it's equipment. (minus that the dual shock one's don't and can't work with the Bouncer.) The PS2 has backwards compatibility with all of it's games, making gamers happy, it made me happy. Nintendo has no backwards compatibilty at all. If you want to play your old games, play them on your old system. You've had to buy all new stuff for your new console, and PS hasn't had to buy much new stuff, "play your old games on our new console and don't worry about the compatibility, the new controllers work just fine with our old games." I believe that the N64 and the DC have the smallest libraries of games ever... or Saturn... Nintendo has one system that has been backwards compatable ever, the Game Boy, all praise the GB!

MARKed man
The gamecube is a fine machine but it isn't old enough to be my favorite! I chose for the N64 because I played a lot of good games on it. The SNES was probably better but I missed a lot of the good games (all the final fantasies for example).

flamingspinach
The SNES, I'd say, was better than the N64. At least for someone like me, who only plays the real system if absolutely necessary. Because, talented as Jabo and Zilmar may be, a) N64 is horrible to emulate with reasonable speed for computers only 8 times as fast as the actual system, and b) zsKnight, _demo_, and pagefault had a much easier job, seeing as how they only needed to emulate with reasonable speed for computers 50 times as fast as the actual system.

RabidFlamingo
I can't vote for Gamecube, it's games havn't been good enough so far, I'm looking forward to a few but, I still can't vote for it.

Billybobgeorgebob
Ya know what, I'm actually going with a choice not on this pole (I can because I AM GOD!(of this pole)) and I'm going with... THE PC!!! *makes fake thunder noises with mouth*

Lord Cacill
If my PC were powerful enough, i wouldn't be posting from school. lol.

flamingspinach
Do you mean "poll"? Because it would be kinda stupid to be the god of the pole...

rob_ot3
some people might take that typo the wrong way ... I could name a few... but I won't.
Concerning the PC... i say to every one who asks my about my laptop "it was obvsolete the moment I left the store."
Don't get me wrong it's a decent mchine but it only has a minuscule 8mb graphics card It's not fair!!!

flamingspinach
Neither did I, as you can see...

Billybobgeorgebob
.........Miniscule 8 MB memory card..... actually thats pritty good (for a labtop anyways)

Lord Cacill
if it's older than a year and a half, that's good. now-a-days they're puttin GeForce Mobile and Radeon Mobile 64 MB graphics cards in laptops. (Mostly those with P4's (those p4m's suck.) and Athlon XP's (holy heaven AMD rocks!)) My graphics card is the most advanced thing on it... a GeForce 4 MX 420 PCI. 64 MB SDR.

Why do people almost always call laptops, LABTOPS!?

Billybobgeorgebob
Hmm. Because you put it on your LAP. And now we shal go back to the topic of this thread!

Sephiroth
Okay, I have sat idly by for too too long. The "D&D game Shadowrun!!??!!" I should slaughter you all. Have any of you ever even bloody played a real RPG before? I have been tabletopping for 7 years of my life and am disgraced to hear such foolish terms used. D&D is property of Wizards of the Coast now, but back in the day it was owned by TSR. Even then it had nothing to do with the company that made Shadowrun (FASA for anyone who cares). Me an' Summer have been playing Shadowrun (the REAL version) for a good three years now with a great circle of friends we have where we live, and it's one of the most enjoyable RPG systems out there.
I apologize deeply if I seem like I'm ranting, but I can't stand peopel using terms that are completely wrong. Sorry all.

Oh, and Thock!

Lord Cacill
OffT: i was referring to the point that people call laptops (which i refer to them as), labtops. that makes me crazy i love laptops.

BOnT:
Anyway, unfort, i can't seem to get people together to play tabletop. still, this topic can't seem to say on topic very long without hitting a tangent. it could be a good thing, it could be a bad thing.

I don't like the GC because it can't play DVDs, a feature i quite like from in my PS2.

flamingspinach
Let me guess. Off Topic and Back On Topic. Is that right? I love guessing acronyms! ^_^

Nergulch
Looking at the poll, methinks someone is cheating.

flamingspinach
Methinks so too. If you're not logged on, you can vote as many times as you want... Someone must be cheating. Just yesterday the SNES was way ahead.

Michael Chandra
Sorry, my mistake. I'm a layman on those grounds.
Okay, tabletop Shadowrun, from FASA, which is no more.

Billybobgeorgebob
Methinks you might be right. Methinks i shall check on it.

Kuro-chan
Yeah... You're right!!! Someone enjoys the PS2 way too much. SNES was always in the lead! Chandra, can you use your warlock powers to zap whoever voted for the PS2 more than once? I am still resting after the invasion of the banana army...

Later,

Typhin
I was never really able to get into tabletop Shadowrun for some reason. It might have been that I didn't understand it very well, being the first tabletop game I ever tried. It might have been that I tend to just be too happy for anything gloomy.

As a video game, I prefer the SNES version of Shadowrun. They took a lot more liberties with the system, yes. But in return you get a neat plot. The Genesis version was, "Some guys shot your brother. You're going to go kill them. Have fun."

--Typhin, who does find it interesting to be able to raise Negotiation and Reputation enough to be able to sell items to the Crime Mall for more than you pay for them... ^_^

Lord Cacill
baaaad cheaters. burn the cheaters.

Typhin
It's not cheating, it's taking advantage of the game's system. It's really the game's way of getting so powerful and respected that the Crime Mall will give you money you ask for because they fear your displeasure. If the mob boss turns to a flunky and says, "Give me $10", the flunky is going to give him $10! ^_^

--Typhin, who can rationalize almost anything!

flamingspinach
What sucks is that you can't modify your own poll. You have to ask a moderator to do it. So... Sprite_monkey? Hugbee?

Sprite Monkey
What do you want me to do? I don't think I can change the votes...

Hugbee
And anyway it's not really worth it. I mean think about it, so you know someone for what ever pointless reason decided to up the stats on the PS2 system... so? It was just a curiosity poll, it has no significance aside from idle curiosity, and the results are that a site dedicated to a SNES game has shockingly choosen SNES as the best system. It has also show that some people like to waste their time screwing up the stats on pointless poll. Congrats to them, they win a place on the list of most wasteful uses of the internet.

Sprite Monkey

BWAAAHAHAHAHAHAAAA!! Right in between the gold Flaming Spinich statue and the Really Big Button website, located inside the MWUI hall in Redmond, Washington. lol

flamingspinach
... that really hurts me... ... please don't do that...

RandomFerret
For the GCN vs Xbox vs PS2 debate, go here for a valid essay and some intriuging predictions from last year.
http://www.actsofgord.com/Proclamations/

As for tabletops, WotC has, basically, a monopoly on fantasy, and most people remember FASA for Battletech anyway. How 'bout that MageKnights? Anybody?

And Sega released a final unit about the size of a cd player that played Sega CD, 32x and Genesis, so that's kind of backwards compatable. And of course, the Japanese N64 played Super Famicom games, but we gaijin weren't good enough to get that.

-Da RF-

Sephiroth
Mage knight is nothing compared to Mechwarrior dark age.

Typhin
There's also some console in the East that plays a bunch of games. GP32 or something? Acts of Gord was mentioning it a while back, but I didn't look into it.

I've been too busy looking at this (http://www.malevole.com/mv/misc/tribute/) anyway. ^_^;;

--Typhin, whos first reaction was "Turn Undead!". Guess who plays the Cleric in D&D?

RandomFerret
GP32 is an open-source system, like the DC only on purpose. Those games are mostly illegal rom ports.

Well, since I don't know who messed up the votes, I'll just blow up the entire planet.
Earth has been my problem since I opened a gate to this place and a soul came through saying "close it, for this world is doomed, and if you do not close the gate, you will be taken down with them!"

Sprite Monkey
WAAAHAHAHAAHAHAA!!

Somebody has been LARPing a bit too much.

RabidFlamingo
Right in between the gold Flaming Spinich statue and the Really Big Button website,

Wait wait, where am I on that list?

Actually, a guest can. I just tried it, and you can vote mulitple times as a guest. So someone here did it (Is it the butler?). And SM, yes administraters can edit polls, but I cannot edit my own, not fair

Michael Chandra
LARPing? What's that supposed to be?

flamingspinach
I just looked that up. Apparently, it stands for Live Action Role Playing. I don't really get it... I think you're supposed to act out something...

Sprite Monkey
LARPing is like acting when you play a table top RPG. Cases occur where people forget the game is over, or not in session, and carry their character over to real life. Essentially, I was making fun of MC.

In my area, LARPing occurs a lot, and the people are nerds so they carry the game over into real life A lot.

And to answer your next question, typically, it's Vampire: The Masquerade.

flamingspinach
"Vampire: The Masquerade"? Wasn't that a game that came out a while ago, rated M, and with horribly unimaginative box art? Never played it. Was it also a TTRPG?

Sprite Monkey
Yes, it was first a TTRPG, I believe since... I want to say '97 or '98. Much like the box art, the local players are horribly unimaginative.

RabidFlamingo
There was a bit of LARP going on here during the summer. It MIGHT have been fun to join... if they didn't outrule shield bashing.

Mana Boy
Awwww. I'm 1 out of 2 people who voted for NES. I guess it's just because I like those old megaman games and Final Fantasy games. I think NES just has so many good games that it is hard to chose when I play it. Yeah I got Gamecube but newer doesn't mean better. I think my second favorite would be SNES then. It's hard to chose from all those systems!

Mana Boy
Is LARPing like people do in online PC games where they play the game, like Star Wars, and act like the players in the game? You know like have someone act like Jango Fett and someone like Mace Windu like close to the end of episode II? Just wondering. If you didn't understand that just say so.

Billybobgeorgebob
Quiet newbee Starwars fan.

RandomFerret
Star Wars Newbie = Starbie? Noob Wars? Padawan?
Noob wars sounds like a webcomic about forums. Hey, didn't RL Comics do that? (http://www.reallifecomics.com/index.html)

-DaRF-

Mana Boy
uhhhhh... I'm not a newbee starwars fan. I just like it. I just thought that I'd go star wars with my name here. I'm more like Corn. Corn ownz joo.
P.S. Don't call me a Newbee Starwars fan please. Thanks.

RandomFerret
And if you do, at least let's work on a universally-accepted term!

RabidFlamingo
I guess it's just because I like those old megaman games and Final Fantasy games.

All of the Megaman games were the same.

Sprite Monkey
I don't know how you got Star Wars newbie out of Mana Boy's post. It sounds like Mana Boy was asking a legitimate question about LARPing using Star Wars as an example. As far as I know, Mana Boy has been a Star Wars fan his entire life.

Just another example of BBGB pissing me off and taking one step closer to having his stupid ass banned. :flaming:

Thank you Sprite Monkey. I think you proved a nice, nice point for me. Thanks.

I apologise, I was in a very bad mood that day. And I mean BAD. Ok, I'm one of those class clowns who dont know when he's joking or when he's insulting. I was only trying to joke, but I guess I went too far (Trust me, I've said worse in school).

Black Yoshi 108
>=O How could you not put the Saturn on there? Saturn, while flopping and setting a new low for "hard to program for", was most definitely the best system evah.

And on another point, take the game with the best graphics for each of the current systems. Now, honestly, can you tell the difference between them? Or even better, do you care about the difference between them? The only part of graphics I really care about is framerate, which brings me to Star Fox Adventures for the Gamecube. Beautiful graphics, but the framerate dropped sharply every now and then. But, I digress...

MARKed man
Still need to get that game, but I'm busy playing Seiken Densetsu 3. It's cool AND free. What more can you ask! I'm seriously waiting for animal crossing, heared lots of good things about it.
