: If I didn't know any better i'd say I was addicted.

okay. I've never been a big sci-fi buff. I mean, I've seen the star wars movies and a few episodes of Star Trek, but who hasn't?

Then, a few days ago, I picked up a cheap Star wars novel at a bookstore, and almost immediately emptied my savings to buy 4 more. I didn't think much of it then, I mean, It was a good author.

But then, today, I had the choice between a brand new Video card, or SW: Knights of the old republic, (and a cheap scanner) I chose the game and scanner. I still had no inkling of what to come. Late this evening I found myself in front of my computer, hooking up my scanner, but by then I knew, it was only an excuse.

Within minutes I found myself downloading fanfics, wallpapers, music and general information about anything I could find. Needless to say there is an infinite wealth of Star Wars on the internet, and I was awash in fanboyism, the type that will drive you to buy all the cheap merchandise, make you sit for hours in the cold to see the new movie, and generally drive you insane.

Thus I open myself to the forum, has anyone experienced a similar tidal wave of held in addiction, and, is there any book, game, movie, etcetera, that I should indulge myself in?:geek:

X-wing rogue squadron was awesome. also, there was a series of Han Solo books which roxxored. And a new republic trilogy (The one with the evil alien admiral and the fleet lost in hyperspace... I can't remember the name of it...) danm it's been a while since I gave away my SW books.. anyhoo, If you really love star wars, get a small group of friends(One of which has to be a DM) and buy the Star Wars RPG... it is by far the BEST RPG I've ever played.

No specific name for that trilogy, as it was the first set of published Star Wars books that Lucas did not have a direct hand in. It's generally either referred to as the Thrawn trilogy (the alien admiral was named Thrawn), or the Zahn Trilogy (it was written by Timothy Zahn)

X-Wing vs TIE fighter was better than Rogue Squadron. XvT was a flight simulator, Rogue Squad was an arcade game.
Dark Forces II: Jedi Knight is quite possibly the best Star Wars game ever produced. It's not much to look at now, and the weapons are better portrayed in the also-good Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast, but JK1 had live actor cutscenes, a compelling storyline, and some nice puzzles. The ability to choose darkside or lightside is also nice.

Y'know, after all these years, I still haven't gone darkside.

I also am hooked on Star Wars books. I have about 50 of them. The New Jedi Order books they're making now...well, they started off sucking great amounts of suckiness but the later ones are written by people with brains. That said, if they kill off another main character I'm hiring a few hitmen.

I'm talking Rogue Squadron THE BOOK SERIES.
sorry, needed clarification.

Wait... you say the New Jedi Order books are getting better? Mebbe I should start reading them again...

Basically around Balance Point, although it wasn't too great itself. The books have a very different feel and the Vong are explained such that their previous actions are inexplicable. Basically, the authors got their act together. Star by Star was a bit of a backslide because of SPOILER REMOVED but was still written well, and after that it just got better.

And I agree, the nine X-Wing books and I, Jedi were very good.

Hmm, my scifi addiction started slowly and has been building up. I never have had sudden acctions (unless it was a new type of porno).

Never really got into SW or ST fanfic, althought I know there's some really good stuff. Ahh, I need to get some good books, if only Asimov had lived for three hundred years.

Woodtopian
okay, i'm serious. STAR WARS: Knights of the old republic is awesome.
:D:D:D

Heck, it's not just awesome; it's one of the best D&D style RPGs ever, in my opinion. It held my attention longer than BGII or NWN. I beat it already going completely light side. I can't stand going dark side, because I hate having to hurt people, even in videogames. I am going to play it again, though, and do what I personally feel is right, rather than what the game creators felt were right (I saved a lot and always went light side before). I want to see whether the game feels that my personality is more good or evil.

Or maybe morbidly pacifist?

Wood, you should try the game X-wing Alliance. It's old and chunky by today's standards, but it is the best SW flight sim out there. It has a great storyline and even lets you fly Corellian freighters.

God, I love the YT-2000. Two blaster turrets, a forward blaster, an ion cannon, a torp launcher, and turret auto-fire. Every SW geek's wet dream. The only ship that can stand up to me in a YT-2000 is a SSD. Takes too long to destroy, I get bored. I've been know to stay behind in missions and use the 2000 to wipe out entire Imperial fleets with it.

About books, I've read them all unless, a new one came out in the last month. At college, I don't get out to bookstores often and like I'd have money to buy them. Right now, I'm reading Starship Troopers. Gotta love the mech suits the troopers wear.

Wood, I'd suggest taking a look at two NJO books, Rebel Dream and Rebel Stand. It's a great book. Good combat and mucho Wedge (Wedge is my favorite character and Stand showcases one of his finest bits of flying.).

I always preferred X-Wing vs TIE Fighter: Balance of Power. Gotta love blasting apart squints in a pointer.

jedierrant
You can do that in X-wing Alliance too. I've done a lot of cool melees in the customizable multiplayer. Ever got up against trips in a cross?

Ryvaken Tal`Draco
XvT didn't have trips. Personally, I always felt that the cross's weapon configuration made burning too hard in comparison to shucking.

XWA's ability to link all the weapons together made the B-wing an absolute death machine. Same goes for the Defender even more so because it has the speed the B-wing lacks. Man, I love that game. Nothing expresses the joy of taking out a Imperial Star Destroyer's shield generators and then disabling it with a tramp frieghter. Then you can sit off its bridge and pummel to nothing single-handedly.

The New Jedi Order rocks, as do a large percentage of Star Wars books. A few suck however. NJO: Traitor is probably the best SW book ever.

On a different note, the series Stargate SG-1 will be playing from the beginning, starting tonight at 7pm on Scifi US. The series is based on the movie Stargate, but IMO is much better than the movie.

Check it out if you get a chance. :D It stars Richard Dean Anderson (AKA MacGuyver). Starts in just over an hour, though, so set your VCRs soon.

The first episodes of TNG that I really watched got me into Trek in a hurry. I didn't think it'd ever happen, but it did. ^_^

Then I got to college and recorded most of the TNG series, and now I'm big into DS9. I'm so anxiously waiting for Tuesday (payday) so I can get the next two seasons! =D

I'm a big Star Wars fan, and I think NJO is probably the best storyline I've read so far, along with the Thrawn series (After the Trilogy, they made two more, can't remember the names, that have a continuence of "Thrawn"), although I did like the Rogue Squadron series a lot too, and have read all the other books. I like the Rogue Squadron games for GC, although I haven't played the newest one yet so I don't know if its good or not.

And sadly, I don't own an X-box, so I plan on getting KOTOR when it comes out on PC. The PC Jedi Knight series is awsome too, if you looking for Star Wars games.
