Graphics tablet for beginner / hobbyist?

    Hi all,
Does anyone have a recommendation for a good-enough graphics tablet for some just starting out?  I've done a bit of research, and it seems like Wacom makes the professional-grade stuff for professional-grade prices... I'm looking for something a step or two down from that.  I'm thinking about getting a Genius 6x8 tablet, does anyone have anything to say one way or another about that?  Or another manufacturer?

    Thanks,
         John Savage

My younger sister got me a tablet a few years back, and it's a pretty cheap brand. Actually it doesn't even have a brand, just a serial number on the back. xD
However, since I only use it to color manga and to help make icons in Photoshop, its great. You can try hitting up google and seeing if the serial matches to anything if you'd like. WP8060(U)

    Wacom Bamboo, 5x4, 90 bucks.

It's not worth it to get something not a Wacom. They break, they glitch, they just aren't worth it. I remember looking for a cheap tablet on starting out... and everyone complained and flamed and bashed the other tablet brands. I could find so few positive reviews. Wacom.

A Bamboo isn't that expensive and it's still great quality. I have a Graphire4, I'm glad I decided to not be cheap and spend 200 dollars.

Yes. Wacom. Even a cheaper smaller Wacom is the way to go.

Spend the money to get a Wacom the first go around, because if you're planning on using a tablet, you're going to get one eventually anyway.

Wacom is the only way to fly. I love mine, it's small, but it gets the job done. I'd recommend you try their Bamboo if you are looking for inexpensive. It's $80.00, and that is REALLY cheep for their technology.

My first tablet is/was a Wacom Ituos 3 and it's really good quality for the price. Having worked on cheaper brands I don't think I could downgrade from what I have now.
